Mesut Özil è un calciatore professionista tedesco nato il 15 ottobre 1988. La sua carriera inizia nel 2004 quando si unisce alla squadra giovanile del Rot-Weiss Essen. Dopo aver giocato una sola partita, viene notato dallo Schalke 04, che lo acquista per la propria squadra giovanile.
